Michigan boy held in jail after setting house on fire because parents ‘didn’t tell him to play ‘fireman’’

A 12-year-old Michigan boy was being held in juvenile detention Wednesday after police learned he set his house on fire because his parents never told him to play “fireman.”

Lake Huron Regional Fire Marshal Brian Smith says he learned from authorities that the 12-year-old and two of his siblings were locked up together in the same jail. He says arson was ruled out and arson-related charges are pending.

The boy and his siblings — 11-year-old Sarah Jackson and 8-year-old Cameron Jackson — were being held on $100,000 bonds each. Smith declined to give further details.

The parents are being held on $100,000 bond each. No lawyer was listed for them in court records.

The Associated Press does not name juveniles accused of crimes.

It wasn’t clear whether the three brothers are related.
