From Cardi B to Post Malone: The most awkward moments of Art Basel

2.25pm — After recently reconciling their relationship following a brief separation, it was announced that Cardi B and Offset had reached a settlement to end their marriage in late October, with the statement saying “there is simply no other person for me to be responsible for.” We wish the couple all the best, and hope they’ll always work together to raise their daughter, Kulture.

2.32pm — But for every Cardi B and Offset who make it through a well-documented romance, there’s another couple who didn’t. Actress Alexis Bledel and her director husband, Vincent Kartheiser, announced their separation last February after three years of marriage. It’s been rumored, however, that they remain close and will continue living together.

3.28pm — For the past few days at Basel — a gathering of art lovers and collectors from around the world — the party scene has been somewhat underwhelming. This year, Basel’s managers said they knew the marquee party was going to happen, but didn’t release the news. So were they waiting for rumors to circulate on social media before making the announcement? This seemed incredibly awkward. Until Offset tweeted out the name of his new Instagram handle, all good again.

3.51pm — Offset continued to party into the wee hours of the morning. A few hours after Instagram was inundated with photos and videos from his party, the rapper was partying with Musiq Soulchild.

6.28pm — Maybe this wasn’t so surprising, but three days after his arrest for alleged domestic violence against Cardi B, Nicki Minaj followed him into an elevator. We suppose the drama with her “Barbie Dreams” collaborator was leaving? The first night of art Basel is finally over!

7.03pm — While we were still soaking up the heartwarming news about Offset, who is now in a good place and his music career and time with Kulture back on track, American rapper Post Malone was arrested on his way to a VIP night club. We now know the reason. The “White Iverson” musician was allegedly drunk, causing a disturbance at the Customs and Border Protection facility on the eve of Basel.

11.01pm — We’re sure there will be a lot more awkward couples reunions during the next few weeks at Basel — and we certainly won’t be the only ones tuning in. But for now, the new year brings us with it the award for best headline of 2018: “Couple fucks amid divorce, just two days before holiday cards with their baby daughter were sent.” Awkward.
